CUTTACK: The High Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking directions for arrest of senior IAS officer Priyabrat Patnaik for his alleged link behind the sensational murder case of judo coach Biranchi Das. The HC also disposed of a related application seeking CBI probe into the murder case stating that it was inappropriate to interfere in the case at this stage when the police were investigating the case. “This is very early stage on the part of this court to interfere into the case,” observed the bench of Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Justice B N Mohapatra. The HC, however, acknowledged that the case was very sensational and the prima facie evidences revealed that there were some influential and high-profile persons involved in it. While dismissing the main writ petition and the miscellaneous case, the HC further directed the police to complete the investigations “quickly” in an “unprejudiced” manner and asked the police to take “strong” action in the case. Expressing satisfaction over the actions taken by the government in the case, the HC observed that the alleged senior IAS officer has been already relieved of his duties while the police commissioner and many senior police officers have been transferred . A Dhenkanal-based youth Manas Ranjan Sahu had approached the HC through a PIL seeking arrest of the senior IAS officer on the basis of statements given to police by the main accused Raja alias Sandeep Acharya and co-accused Chagala alias Akshaya Behera. The petitioner later made another application seeking a CBI enquiry. BHUBANESWAR: A month elapsed of the murder of Biranchi Das but city police are still groping in the dark to find out exact motive behind the killing. During the period, they conducted raids at various places in the State and searches outside, and interrogated prime accused Raja Acharya and co-accused Chagala. Police Commissioner Bijay Sharma said police were arranging documentary evidence, ballistic opinion, forensic evidence and corroborative verifications to complete the probe process.
