Brainstorming session: Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu lighting a lamp to inaugurate the two-day State BJP Executive Committee meeting in Bhopal on Tuesday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and senior party leaders are also present on the dais. BHOPAL: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and election in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Venkaiah Naidu lashed out at the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre on Tuesday and said that it was solely responsible for galloping prices, agricultural crisis and growing terrorism. Mr. Naidu was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day executive committee meeting of the State BJP unit which began here on Tuesday. Prominent among those present on the occasion were Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, State party president Narendra Singh Tomar, party’s national vice-president Vikram Verma and senior party leaders Thavarchand Gehlot, Pyarelal Khandelwal, Sunderlal Patwa, Kailash Joshi, Babulal Gaur, Sumitra Mahajan and Satyanarayan Jatia. Mr. Naidu said the country’s internal security was greatly threatened now because of the Congress party’s policy of appeasement and its vote bank politics. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had become a victim of instability as all decisions at the top were being taken by the party president Sonia Gandhi. Taking a dig at the Left parties, he said they were supporting the UPA at the Centre but were opposing the Congress in Kolkata. The countdown for the UPA Government’s downfall would begin after the Karnataka election, he said, adding that those in the BJP should brace up for the coming Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Naidu told party cadres to remain alert and asked all State Ministers, party office-bearers, MPs and MLAs to tour their territories to inform the people about the initiatives taken by the State BJP government for the welfare of the people. He said the BJP should open a dialogue with the people and make them aware that the UPA Government’s “discriminatory policy” towards the non-Congress ruled States was adding to the people’s woes. The Madhya Pradesh BJP executive passed two resolutions. One of them condemned the reported statements by some Union Ministers holding the people and their “evolving” eating habits responsible for the food shortage and price rise. This shows how insensitive the Central Government is on the issue of rising prices, the resolution charged, adding that people were being denied the right to life due to rising prices. The resolution said the UPA Government had abdicated its responsibility by allowing market forces to rule the situation. The second resolution passed on Tuesday accused the UPA Government of discrimination. It reiterated Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s stand that the Centre was neglecting the State’s demands relating to foodgrains, power shortage and drought relief.
