Create Mayiladuturai district, says council

roads in Mayiladuturai


MAYILADUTURAI: Senior Citizens Council of Mayiladuturai in Nagapattinam district urged the Tamil Nadu Government to create a “Mayiladuturai district’.

The Council passed a resolution in this regard at its meeting here on Monday held under the chairmanship of T.S.Thiyagarajan, president of the council. The council has also adopted several other resolutions at the meeting.

The council requested the Southern Railway to extend the Coimbatore-Kumbakonam Jan Shatabdi Express train to Mayiladuturai and wanted the Mayiladuturai municipality to take immediate steps for repairing several roads in the town.

The council appealed to the philanthropists to donate for the proposed old age home by the council and requested the district administration to desilt the Pazhankaveri and supply water in the Cauvery river from Anaimelagaram.

Property tax

The council appealed to the Mayiladuturai municipality not to hike the property tax and postpone the revision of tax.

Prof. A. Subbaiah, vice-president, A.R. Chokkalingam, M.K. Raghavan, M. Kaliyaperumal, Kandasamy and others spoke.
