Congress, BJP following ‘common economic policies’, says CPI (M)

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The CPI (M) and other Left parties are concentrating their efforts on intensifying the struggle between “shining India and suffering India”, Sitaram Yechury, MP and CPI (M) Polit Bureau member, said on Monday while addressing an election meeting in Adampur to canvass support for party nominee Prabhat Singh.

He asserted that the victory of the CPI (M) candidate could give an important signal towards the advancement of goal of third alternative in the country. Such political alternative had become imperative in view of both the Congress and the BJP following “common economic policies” that have made the country subservient to US imperialism which is exploiting the developing countries through neo- liberal globalization, he added.

According to a press release issued by Haryana CPI (M) Secretary Inderjit Singh, Mr. Yechury narrated the success story of the Left Front which was ruling West Bengal for the past 30 years.

On the relations between the Left Parties vis-a-vis the UPA Government, he claimed that many positive achievements had been registered during recent years despite overall policies of the UPA regime being generally “anti people”. Yet he said there was no contradiction between outside support of the Left parties on the one hand and opposing the broad direction of the UPA polices at the same time.

Coming down heavily on the UPA Government for its reluctance to take steps to curb unprecedented price rise of essential commodities, he asserted that the Prime Minister’s plea that global factors were alone responsible for inflation “was not valid”. He reminded the audience that parties like the BJP were spreading communal feelings through emotive issues rather than really fighting for the redressal of people’s problems.

Mr. Inderjit Singh appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of the CPI (M) nominee. He regretted that all other candidates were raking up personalized issues while the real issues like agrarian crisis, unemployment, health, education, sex ratio, social justice and so on were being highlighted only by the CPI (M).
