‘No confrontation with EC’

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said here on Tuesday that his Government was not adopting a confrontationist approach towards the Election Commission and asserted that he did not find anything wrong in Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy’s observations about the Rythu Chaitanya Yatras.

Replying to a query that the Government appeared to be adopting a belligerent stand towards the EC after the latter found prima facie evidence of violation of the model code of conduct, he said: “We have the highest regard for the EC and it is an important tool in the functioning of a democracy.”

Dr. Reddy scoffed at the Opposition’s demand for the Minister’s dismissal. On the reported communication sent by the Chief Secretary to district Collectors, Dr. Reddy said the Government wanted any correspondence to the EC to be routed through the administration at the State-level.
