On the offensive: TDP K. Yerran Naidu, T. Devender Goud, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and others releasing a ‘chargesheet’ against the Government in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday released a charge-sheet listing out 100 allegations against the four-year rule of the Congress Government and wondered whether the re-dedication tomorrow was for its “unprecedented levels of corruption and all-round failures”.

The 16-page charge-sheet was released at a press conference in the presence of a dozen senior party leaders, including K. Yerran Naidu, T. Devender Goud, Y. Ramakrishnudu, K. Venkata Rao, K. Sivaprasada Rao, M. Jaganadham and M. V. Mysoora Reddy. They wanted the Government to respond to the charges.

Questioning Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s contention that his rule would be known for “credibility, compassion and courage”, Mr. Yerran Naidu wondered if his credibility was so high why the parties which went to polls along with Congress, four years ago, deserted him now. These parties have now become his bitter critics, he said.

He said the Chief Minister’s compassion was confined to his party MLAs and contractors giving them the freedom to make money in the name of projects. As for courage, it could be seen in the rampant corruption, nepotism and large- scale land grabbing and the way the Chief Minister started a newspaper on his son’s name, just to protect his interests and counter other newspapers exposing his regime’s corruption, he alleged

‘Not a referendum’

To a question, he and Mr. Goud said the byelections could not be treated as a referendum as it was normally taken on a single issue. In these byelections there were several issues ranging from Telangana to price rise and failure on law and order front, he said.

Mr. Goud said the modus operandi adopted by the Government was to offer some small amounts as pensions or other concessions and then indulge in corruption in the name of big projects and schemes. But people were not so naïve and see through this game sooner or later.

From sparking off regional feelings to exploitation of river water, Government land and underground mines, this Government has left nothing to be rededicated to people, he added.
