Awards for small, micro enterprises

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Enterprising entrepreneurs running highly successful small and micro industrial units are being honoured with government awards at a function in Thrissur on Thursday.

K.C. Sanjeev, running Print Finish Equipment at Thodupuzha, will receive the State-level award in the ‘general category’ for the year 2005-06 and Biju Poulose, running Digila Devices India (P) Limited in Wayanad, the same award for the year 2006-07. These awards carry a purse of Rs.15,000 each.

The award for the best woman entrepreneur in 2005-06 is for S. Subhadramma, who runs Nikazu Frozen Foods, a unit making vegetable delicacies, at Kakkanad in Kochi. The winner in this category in 2006-07 is Ummuselma, Neenu Flour Mill, Malappuram. They will receive Rs.10,000 each, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

The award for 2005-06 for entrepreneurship among scheduled caste people is for a printing and binding unit called Makkaraparambha Indiraji Pattikajathi Vanitha Offset Printing in Kozhikode.

It carries a prize money of Rs.10,000. A panel chaired by the Industries Director decided the winners. Among the general managers of District Industries Centres P.A. Xavier, Sam C. Ittycheria and K. Gopalakrishnan and Salim B’Ker will receive awards for good performance in 2005-06 and 2006-07. State Bank of Travancore, Indian Overseas Bank, Federal Bank, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank and Dhanalakshmi Bank too will receive the awards for supporting entrepreneurs.
