Murali scores century

Madurai: A century by Murali helped Freak Cricket Club defeat Eleven Stars Cricket Club by 56 runs in the Canara Bank-Madurai DCA first division ’B’ zone league at Madurai recently.

The scores: First Division zone ’B’: Freak CC 208 for six in 50 overs (Murali 101, Ibrahim 40) bt Eleven Stars CC 152 in 37.5 overs (Sahayam Arun 55, Ganesan four for 27).

Crescent CC 108 in 28 overs (Kumar five for 17) lost to Eleven Bullets CC 113 for four in 22.4 overs (Balamurugan 43 not out, Suriyakumar 40).

Second division: Supersonic Concord CC 169 for four in 27 overs (Raja 73) bt Blooming Elevens CC 71 in 13.1 overs (Saravanan five for 15, including hat-trick). Modern Golden Star CC 132 in 24 overs bt Stalwarts CC 112 in 21.3 overs.

Backiaraj triumphs

S. Backiaraj of Chennai won the boys’ under-21 title defeating A. Devakumar, also from Chennai, 25-23, 25-21 in the 50th Tamil Nadu State carrom championship for boys and girls, at Bell MHSS, Nagamalai Pudukottai near Madurai on Sunday.

Other results (all Finals): Boys under-18: L. Silambarasan (Chennai) bt K. Chandrakumar (Che) 25-21, 25-19; U-14: Mahendran (Che) bt V.R. Venkateshwaran (Mdu) 25-18, 25-15; U-12: Shibi Abrinev (Mdu) bt Rohanraj (Mdu) 10-25, 25-18, 25-14. Girls U-18: Srividhya (Mdu) bt Beneeta (Mdu) 25-20, 25-18; U-14: P. Jayashree (Che) bt S. Adulya (Mdu) 25-9, 25-9; U-12: I. Yascica (Vnr) bt V. Guha Kumari (Mdu) 25-14, 25-22.

State-level hockey

The 11th State-level hockey tournament for Kottaiammal memorial Trophy will get under way at Vadipatti near Madurai on Thursday.

Eighteen teams, including defending Champion Tamil Nadu Special Police, last year’s runner-up AGORC, Food Corporation of India, Halls Hockey Club (all from Chennai), G.K. Motors, Reserve Line Sports Club, Thirunagar HC (all from Madurai), Chola’s SC (Trichy) and host Ever Great Hockey Club are participating in the tournament.

Transfers

The first window transfers for the inter-State football players transfers will be open from June 1 to 30. The inter-club transfers within the State will be open from June 1 to 20 and the inter-district transfers, which are already on, will end on May 20. The application for the inter-State transfers can be had from the TFA office in Nehru Stadium from June 1 and for the rest at the respective district unit offices.
