Help ryots cut down input costs: Minister

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy has said that it is the responsibility of ‘adarsha rythulu’ (model farmers) to help the farmers in villages to cut down on the input costs like fertiliser and pesticide use by giving them better crop management tips learnt during the various training programmes.

Speaking at a training programme for the model farmers here on Monday evening he reminded the trainees that they must act as coordinators between the farmers and agriculture officers. It was also their duty to plug the shortcomings in the agriculture extension work by acting as guides to the farmers on all farm-related and allied activities.

The support and welfare schemes for the farmers in the State had helped the agriculture growth rate shot up to 9.8 per cent from 1.8 per cent when their government had assumed office, he claimed.
