Ambattur Municipality plans more parks

Tenders for the new facilities soon

CHENNAI: In a bid to provide adequate lung spaces in Ambattur, the local body is set to float tenders this month to develop more parks.

Of the 26 parks in the municipality, 10 of them in areas, including Mogappair, Ambattur and Anna Nagar, have been opened for public in the past six months. A municipal official said that tenders would be floated to develop four parks in the next two weeks.

The parks at Anna Nagar C sector and Anna Poonga at Oragadam Main Road would be improved with facilities such as landscaping, construction of a compound wall and children’s play area at a total cost of Rs. 25 lakh. Tenders are to be invited in two packages for the long-pending proposal of developing a park along the Mangal eri at Mogappair, the official said.

For residents of Oragadam, the local body proposes to develop a park at Lakshmiamman Nagar in an area spread over one acre. The estimated project cost is Rs.10 lakh.

While the park at Golden Colony, Mogappair, is awaiting inauguration, the one at Krishnapuram is being provided additional facilities such as ornamental lights and landscaping at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh. The park at Krishnapuram is being used to organise open air concerts by the Krishnapuram Residents’ Welfare Association.

The official said the works would be completed in three months. The parks would be handed over to the self-help groups or the residents’ welfare association of the area for maintenance as per the government directive four years ago.
