Toastmasters International to organise conference in Bangalore Bangalore: It is indisputable that presentation skills are crucial to success at work. Professionals are willing to spend money and time, anything at all, to help them face that audience. Toastmasters International (TI) now offers an easy-to-learn, comprehensive and inexpensive way to hone these essential skills. Founded in 1924 at the YMCA, in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters is an international organisation with about 2,26,000 members and 11,500 clubs in 92 countries worldwide. It has several districts around the globe. The clubs in India and Sri Lanka fall under the District 82 and with a network of more than 100 clubs with about 6,000 members. District 82 has been organising an annual conference called “Ovation” since 2005. Having been conducted in Colombo and New Delhi, “Ovation” is coming to Bangalore this year, and will be held at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences Convention Centre from May 16 to 18. The conference will be inaugurated by Mohammed Murad, International Director of TI from Dubai. The keynote speaker will be Harish Bijoor, Brand Expert and CEO, Harish Bijoor Consultants Inc. The activities that will be part of the three-day conference are educational sessions on leadership and communication, cultural events and contests. Contests will be based on extempore and prepared speeches. During “Ovation-2008,” members will get a chance to analyse, compete and entertain using communication and leadership skills. “Through competitions, we want to ensure a healthy participation of the members who will also learn ways to build teams, develop powers of persuasion and learn to think on their feet,” said M. Venkat, District Governor of District 82, Toastmasters International.
