Six awards conferred for work rendered by missile complex laboratories Complex working on technology development of guided missile systems HYDERABAD: It was a proud moment for the Missile Complex in the City when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gave away the DRDO awards for 2007 in New Delhi on Monday, as a significant number of them were bagged by local laboratories for their strategic contribution in various successful missions. Of the 11 DRDO awards (both team and individual categories), six were conferred for the work rendered by the missile complex laboratories with 164 scientists and officials sharing them, according to G. Satish Reddy, scientist, Research Centre Imarat, a key laboratory of the complex. Ongoing workThe missile complex laboratories are working on technology development of guided missile systems. They are responsible for advanced research, development, induction and production of the systems for the defence forces in collaboration with the academic institutions and the industries. During the last two years, the complex successfully flight-tested various missiles and validated multiple sub-systems in different missions such as Ballistic Missile Defence Interceptor, Astra (air-to-air missile), BrahMos, Dhanush ( naval variant of Prithvi), K-15, ship-launched BrahMos and two missions each of Agni-I and Agni-III. Award conferredThe DRDO Technology Leadership Award was conferred on V.K. Saraswat, Chief Controller R & D (Missiles and Strategic Systems), for realisation of multiple mission objectives and demonstrating potential capabilities for induction of various guided missile systems into the defence forces. The DRDO Path-breaking Research Award was given to Avinash Chander, director, Advanced Systems Laboratory and his team of 39 members, for excellent performance in demonstration of critical technologies and flight-testing of Agni missions Among others, DRDO Agni Award for Excellence in Self-reliance was presented to Abhijit Bhattacharya, from RCI, and his air defence team comprising 48 members for successful demonstration of the ballistic missile defence interceptor.
