Uniform colour for vehicles of educational institutions

To have inscription ‘School Bus’ or ‘College Bus’ in front, rear top

Department amends motor vehicles rules

Prescribes visual depicting students

CHENNAI: Schools and colleges in the State will soon have to get their buses and vans painted yellow.

The vehicles should also have the inscription ‘School Bus’ or ‘College Bus’ painted in front and rear top of the vehicle, in bold letters, a notification of the Home Department said on Tuesday.

In order to curb the rising incidence of road accidents, the department brought about a draft amendment to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, stating that objections and suggestions may be addressed in duplicate to the Home Secretary.

The draft amendment says that both the exterior sides of the vehicles need to have a prescribed visual depiction indicating that the vehicle has school or college students.

A board displaying ‘school children’ shall be exhibited on autorickshaws, share autorickshaws and contract carriages other than the vehicles run by the institutions.
