Progress report: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah along with other leaders releasing the ‘Fact sheet’ of the Congress in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has asked Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu to admit that the observations on subsidies and other welfare measures he made in ‘Plain Speaking’, his biography, were wrong before announcing a spree of sops for all sections.

“Unless Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu admits his mistakes, his promises to the people will be construed as attempts to cheat people,” Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said.

Mr. Rosaiah accompanied by Ministers Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Konathala Ramakrishna, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Mohd. Ali Shabbir and others released a “fact sheet” on the welfare measures for different sections, including free power to farmers and waiver of dues, comparing them with the “dark days” of the Telugu Desam Party rule.

‘Promises motivated’

Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Rosaiah said promises like 60 kg free rice, 12-hour supply of free power and 50 units of free power to the poor were being made with an eye on the forthcoming elections. He questioned why Mr. Naidu did not think about welfare measures during his rule for nine years and in fact, shot down people who opposed hike in power tariff.

Mr. Rosaiah criticised Mr. Naidu for his claims on visiting Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s native Pulivendula constituency and daring the latter to come during his visit.

He expressed concern over the language being used by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao against the Chief Minister.
