BANGALORE: Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh alleged that a group, posing as officials of the Intelligence Bureau and the Income Tax department, visited his Kolkata residence on Tuesday with intent to murder him. Reports that the IT department raided the house were totally false, he told journalists here. “Following media reports on the raids, I spoke to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and IB Special Director Rajiv Mathur. They confirmed that no Central agency had conducted a raid on my house.” Mr. Singh said a few men and women, accompanied by some police constables, hounded out the security personnel at his flat and residents of other flats in the building. They initially said they were from the IT department and later claimed that they were IB officials. “Order probe”“There is a danger to my life from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. Posing as IB and Income Tax officials, these people had gone to my house to kill me,” Mr. Singh claimed and urged West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to order an investigation.
