IN CONTROL: Nikolay Davydenko eased past Ivan Ljubicic to enter the third round of the Hamburg Open.

HAMBURG: Neither fourth-seed Nikolay Davydenko nor fifth-seed David Ferrer wasted any time booking their places in the third round after comfortable wins at the Hamburg Masters Series here on Tuesday.

Spaniard Ferrer had few problems as he claimed a second round victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win in just 76 minutes against Ivo Minar from the Czech Republic.

Davydenko secured a 6-4, 6-1 win over Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia.

Earlier, Spain’s Carlos Moya reached the second round with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7) win over France’s Julien Benneteau.

Bhupathi-Knowles pair ousted

Meanwhile, Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles lost in straight sets to bow out in the first round of the doubles event.

The Indo-Bahamian duo lost 2-6, 3-6 to the American pair of James Blake and Mardy Fish.

The other Indian in the fray Leander Paes and his new Spanish partner Tommy Robredo got a bye in their first round. They next face Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram in the pre-quarterfinals.
