It’s raining prizes at dental college’s Institute Day

PUDUCHERRY: It was time for celebration at Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences at the Second Institute Day on Tuesday.

Loads of prizes and medals were presented to students for outstanding performance in a variety of fields. Titled ‘Smiles-2008’, the celebrations were a culmination of the institute’s annual, sports and cultural days.

Prizes were distributed to students who excelled in academics, cultural events and sports.

“A number of prizes were given away to students in various categories, such as best outgoing student for each year, best outgoing clinical student and best outgoing pre-clinical student,” Assistant Professor in Medicine R. Rajarathinam said. Gold medals were awarded to students for academic achievement.

A rolling trophy for the best performing year in cultural events was also given. “We had organised a week of cultural events a few months ago. It consisted of more than 10 events, such as dance, music and arts. It is an inter-year competition and the one with the highest score wins the trophy,” he said.

Similarly, a rolling trophy in sports for various categories, such as cricket, foot ball and basket ball, was presented. Around 700 persons, including parents of the students, participated in the celebrations.

Director of the institute Shyam Singh presented the annual report. A souvenir of the college was released on the occasion.

A number of cultural events were held as part of the Institute Day celebrations.
