‘Elections not a referendum on Telangana issue’

TRS forced bypolls only to satisfy party leaders’ ego: AP Rythu Sangham

ANANTAPUR: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would not achieve anything in the byelections in Telangana, CPI leader and State president of AP Rythu Sangham K. Ramakrishna said at Guntakal in the district on Wednesday.

The byelections were forced upon by the people even though they were not necessary now, he said.

Talking to newspersons he said all parties had admitted the prevalence of Telangana sentiment and but the TRS had force bypolls only to satisfy party leaders’ ego. The elections would not be a referendum on Telangana issue as they were not demanded by people, he said. He also criticised the TRS leaders for their provocative statements.

He sought to know how the byelections could help TRS leaders achieve Telangana as there would no change in the situation even after the elections. He also criticised Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana for the latter’s remarks against CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu. The Minister’s attribution of caste to the tie-up between the TDP and CPI (M) in the present byelections was practice of filthy politics, Mr. Ramakrishna opined.

The CPI leaders reminded the Minister that the CPI (M) and Mr. Raghavulu and taken up several struggles against the TDP government in the past including in association with the Congress some times.

On the soaring prices of essential commodities he urged the Centre to remove at least 250 food items from the list of forward and future trading and requested the State government to supply 25 essential commodities to the poor and middle class through fair price shops as the governments had failed to bring down the prices.
