Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Municipality on Wednesday passed a resolution during the 16th council meeting to take steps to introduce e-governance in required sections of the municipality with the help of the government. With manual billing system being followed in the collection of house tax, the resolution sought the need to bring in computerised billing system. The government had allotted funds in the budget to implement e-governance in the administration. Similarly, e-governance could be introduced in the required sections, the council members agreed. Commissioner of the Municipality N. Sumathi said spraying machines for mosquito control measures along with the required chemicals had been purchased and would be distributed to all 42 wards. However, councillors of Puducherry Munnetra Congress opposed to the procurement of a chemical — Perimidose Methale. They said the Vector Control Research Centre noted that the chemical was of no use in controlling mosquito breeding if used in sewage. Ms. Sumathi said the chemical was procured as per government guidelines and recommendation of the Health Department. To carry out the spraying works in the wards, she suggested the appointment of an additional person in the self-help groups involved in garbage clearance. RejectedThe council rejected two resolutions which listed the expenses incurred during the visit of President Prathiba Patil on December 21, 2007. An independent councillor tore a copy of the resolution during the meeting.
