BJP leaders up in arms against party unit chief

Staff Reporter

“Visweswaran accused of conniving with anti-socials to grab property”

PUDUCHERRY: Several top functionaries of the Puducherry unit of Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) have revolted against party’s local president M. Visweswaran against the backdrop of a case filed against him in a land grabbing case at Reddiarpalyam.

Releasing a copy of the FIR registered at the Odiansalai Police station at a press conference here on Wednesday, the founder-member of the party’s local unit K. Ilangovan said Mr. Visweswaran had been accused of conniving with anti-social elements to grab the property.

The police had registered the case on April 18, he said, adding that Mr. Visweswaran had no moral authority to continue as president of the party’s State unit.

He had been booked under sections 193, 380, 420, 418, 460 and 468 of Indian Penal Code, Mr. Illangovan added.

Demanding his resignation from the post, he said Mr. Visweswaran during his tenure as president of the party used his position “for his personal benefit.”

Besides working against party’s principles and ideology, he had sidelined genuine and committed workers of the BJP during his tenure as party president, Mr. Illangovan charged.

BJP national president Rajnath Singh had been informed about the developments, he said, adding that after the Assembly election in Karnataka they would again take up the issue with the central leadership. Several top functionaries including executive committee members, district presidents and members of the youth wing of the party were present at the press conference.
