Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday demanded a probe into the alleged nexus between history-sheeters and senior police officials. Tamil Nadu State council member T. Murugan told reporters here that a few senior officials had established links with notorious criminals operating from Puducherry. Citing media reports about the nexus between a section of the senior police officers and notorious rowdy element Theisthan, who was murdered on Monday, Mr. Murugan said the government should order a probe into the alleged links between officers and anti-social elements. Terming the law and order situation as “extremely pathetic,” he said if the government did not take adequate steps to bring normalcy the party would launch an agitation. PicketingSecretary of the Puducherry unit of CPI (M) V. Perumal, who was also present at the press conference, said the party would organise picketing in several parts of the Union Territory on Thursday to protest the rise in price of essential commodities. He also appealed to the government to call an all party meeting to discuss the demand for separate Statehood. He said the government should try to evolve a consensus on the issue, especially when a Minister himself had expressed his displeasure on the demand for Statehood.
