The action plan is to deploy more patrolling personnel PANAJI: The Goa police have instructed the Superintendents of Police, North and South, to seal the borders adjacent to Karnataka 48 hours ahead of the second and third phases of Assembly elections in that State. The police and Excise officials are taking steps to ensure that notorious elements do not cross the border and liquor is not transported into Karnataka during the elections. The second phase of polls will be held on Friday and during that period, the areas bordering Karwar district are to be sealed. Before May 22, when the final phase of Karnataka elections will be held, areas bordering Belgaum district should be sealed, said police sources. This has been done according to the directions of the Election Commission and pursuant to a joint meeting of the police officials of Karnataka and Goa. The action plan was to deploy more patrolling personnel, check people and also all lorries and trucks and look out for suspicious elements, said a senior police official here on Wednesday. The Election Commission had sought a strict check on the borders as they had information that liquor would be smuggled from Goa into Karnataka to be liberally used during electioneering.
