BJP leader Arvind Limbavalli claims response to the party in Shikaripur has been overwhelming

Seeking support: Actor Shruti Mahendra participating in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s road show in Chitradurga on Wednesday.

Chitradurga: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arvind Limbavalli, MLC, has said that the former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa should retire from politics as he is bound to be defeated this time around. He expressed confidence that the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is pitted against him in Shikaripur Assembly constituency in Shimoga district, would emerge victorious.

Speaking to presspersons after participating in a road-show here on Wednesday, he claimed that the BJP had been receiving an overwhelming response in Shikaripur. The BJP leader claimed that the party had already found widespread support from the people.

Chitradurga district will go to polls on Friday.

Exit polls

“Exit polls have also indicated that the BJP is the frontrunner and will lead in most districts of the State”, he said.In response to the reported remarks of All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi that no development work had taken place during the tenure of the previous government in the State, he shot back questioning the Congress’s achievements in the past 40 years.

He said the Congress should introspect and find out how many welfare schemes it had launched despite remaining in power for over four decades in the State. He said Mr. Yeddyurappa had granted Rs. 1,750 crore for the development of backward districts as sought by the Nanjundappa Committee report on removal of regional imbalances. “Despite the report being submitted when the S.M. Krishna Government was in power, why did he, or his successor N. Dharam Singh, fail to act accordingly,” he asked. Actor Shruti Mahendra was present.
