Poll arrangements in place

12,48,812 voters will exercise franchise in Raichur district tomorrow


161, including 47 women, will use postal ballots

6,715 officials deputed for polling duty


Raichur: Polling and security arrangements are almost complete in the seven Assembly segments in Raichur district which goes to the polls in the second phase on Friday.

As many as 12,48,812 voters, including 6,17,929 men and 6,30,883 women, will exercise their franchise in the district. In addition, 161 voters, including 47 women, will use postal ballots.

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Adoni Syed Saleem told presspersons here on Wednesday that all arrangements, including the appointment of polling and security personnel, had been completed for the smooth conduct of polling.

He said that 6,715 polling personnel, including returning and assistant returning officers and polling officials, had been deputy for duty and they had been given training in conducting peaceful polling.

The following is the constituency-wise appointment of polling personnel: Raichur Rural 1,005; Raichur (city) 900; Manvi 1,037; Deodurga 943; Lingsugur 1,003; Sindhanur 993 and Maski 834.

He said that there were 1,349 polling booths in the district with 205 in Raichur Rural, 176 in Raichur, 207 in Manvi, 189 in Deodurga, 202 in Lingsugur, 201 in Sindhanur and 169 in Maski. Of these, there were 62 sensitive polling booths and 32 hyper-sensitive booths in Raichur Rural segment; 58 sensitive and 30 hypersensitive booths in Raichur segment; 72 sensitive and 30 hypersensitive booths in Manvi segment; 62 sensitive and 36 hypersensitive in Deodurga segment; 68 sensitive and 33 hypersensitive in Lingsugur segment; 68 sensitive and 36 hypersensitive in Sindhanur segment and 60 sensitive booths and 33 hypersensitive booths in Maski segment.

Security

Superintendent of Police B.A. Padmanayana said that in addition to 1,753 police personnel and 1,009 Home Guards, 336 central paramilitary companies, with 48 troops in each segment, will be deployed in the district.

Giving details on the violation of model code of conduct, Mr. Padmanayana said that the department had registered seven cases in respect of illegal transportation of money and seized Rs. 1,51,60,000 in cash. It had registered 138 cases and seized liquor worth Rs. 40,67,099.
