Congress, JD(S) ploy will not work, says Yeddyurappa

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) are working together to decimate him politically by not fielding their candidates in Shikaripur Assembly constituency in Shimoga district.

Addressing a public meeting at Kaipet here on Wednesday, he alleged that the Congress and JD(S) had worked out a ploy to prevent the BJP from coming to power. Samajwadi Party candidate and former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa is the only other political heavyweight in the fray in Shikaripur.

‘Parties mistaken’

Mr. Yeddyurappa said both parties were mistaken if they thought that they could defeat him by supporting Mr. Bangarappa and expressed confidence that the people had understood their game plan.

“I did not opt to contest from anywhere except my hometown, as I am confident of a victory,” he said.

He said that the JD(S) had “betrayed” the BJP and brought down the coalition government.

Referring to the statement of JD(S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda that he would play a key role even if his party won 30 seats, Mr. Yeddyurappa said this clearly indicated his ulterior motives.

Davangere MP G.M. Siddeshwar, Davangere North Assembly candidate S.A. Ravindranath and Davangere South candidate Yashwnatha Rao were present on the occasion.
