HYDERABAD: Discovery Channel has unleashed the Fight Quest, a 13-episode show of the world’s 13 ancient and most lethal martial arts. The series includes Kerala’s martial art Kalarippayat along with Jiujitsu of Brazil, Krav Maga of Israel, Pencak Silat of Indonesia, Kali of the Philippines, Wushu and Sanda of China, Kyokushin Karate of Japan, Hapkido of South Korea, Savate of France, boxing of Mexico and Kajukenbo from the USA. Most of them are not as popular as Karate or Kung Fu, but are rooted in their strong martial art traditions, said Rajiv Bakshi, Discover India’s director of marketing and communication. The show has two host fighters - Doug Anderson and Jimmy Smith - who travel across the countries and take tough training in the art for five days and fight the local champions. While Anderson is a specialist of Jiujitsu, Smith is about to take up a professional boxing career. Aggressive artsMost of these arts are aggressive in nature and meant to damage the enemy’s body to the maximum possible extent or to kill him with a single stroke. Quite a few of them are meant for the police and military forces.
