Allahabad: Lawyers at the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday went on the rampage over the death of a colleague who was serving a prison term, prompting a judge to call in the Rapid Action Force (RAF). At the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, police resorted to lathi-charge after agitating lawyers clashed with them following the death of advocate S. P. Awasthi who was in jail. The post-mortem confirmed that Awasthi’s death on Tuesday was due to septicaemia - a case of inflammation caused by infection. There were injuries on the left side of his skull and all over the body, besides blood clotting. His father had lodged a complaint alleging that it was a murder. About 50 advocates who returned to court after the funeral on Wednesday barged into the court room of Justice B. S. Chauhan, head of the Division Bench which had awarded one-month sentence to Awasthi in a contempt case. However, the judge was not present in the court room. The protesters damaged window panes and furniture and set fire to an electric fuse box in the court premises. The Rapid Action Force, deployed at the premises as a precautionary measure, had been called in.
