Guide on infrastructure facilities soon Sports hostels to be built for students belonging to economically-weaker sections CHENNAI: High altitude training centres will be set up in five places in the State, T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, Minister, Youth Welfare and Sports Development, told the Assembly on Tuesday. The centres would be set up with the help of State Sports Boards. Efforts were on to identify places for setting up the centres in places which included Udhagamandalam, Kodaikanal, Top Sengattupatti, Yelagiri, Highwavys (Theni district) and Kalkulam (Kanyakumari district). The project would be completed before the end of 11th Five Year Plan period, he said. An adventure sports academy would be set up in Kolli Hills, Namakkal district, where training on mountaineering, trekking, rock climbing, sky diving, sky gliding, para sailing, para jumping and para diving would be imparted. The Sports Development department would bring out a guide on the various infrastructure facilities available with the State Sports Development Authority. Information on the play grounds in the State, sports facilities available with private firms, schools and colleges in each district would be added to the guide, which would be released soon. Mini stadiaIn the current year, two new mini stadia would be constructed at a total cost of Rs 30 lakh in Harur, Dharmapuri district and Arani, Tiruvannamalai district. Already, the Department was in the process of constructing such stadia in 15 places in the State of which five had been already completed, the Minister said. Yoga classesFulfilling the expectations of the Members of the Assembly, free yoga classes would be conducted at the MLA quarters. The State Sports Development Authority and Yoga Sangam would organise the classes, which would be conducted by the professional yoga teachers for the members during sessions of the Assembly. Sports hostelThe Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department would construct two sports hostels for students belonging to economically-weaker sections. The hostels would come up in Tiruvannamalai and Krishnagiri at a cost of Rs 3.10 crore. While Tiruvannamalai hostel is meant for men, the other one at Krishnagiri would be for women, the Minister announced. Participating in the debate, G. Senthamizhan, AIADMK member, wanted authorities to create a water recycling plant at the aquatic complex at Velachery. He also demanded that drinking water connection be provided to the aquatic complex.
