Conductor killed in accident

TIRUNELVELI: The conductor of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus was killed and 20 others injured in a road accident near here shortly after midnight.

Police said the Madurai-bound Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus collided with a stationary lorry from behind at Gangaikondan around 1.15 a.m. in which Isaac Backiyanathan of North Kundal in Kanyakumari district was killed on the spot, while 20 others were injured.

Police and the fire and rescue service personnel rescued the victims and rushed them to hospitals.

Lorry driver Manikandan of Virudhunagar has been arrested in this connection.

Van drier injured

In another accident, Shanmugaraja (40) of Tiruchendur sustained serious injuries when the van he was driving dashed against a lorry near IRT Polytechnic on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil highway on Tuesday night.
