This Day That Age
The French army took over control in Algiers on May 13. After a day of rioting against the Premier M. Pierre Pflimlin’s attempt to form a government in Paris, paratroopers seized the Algiers radio station and Gen. Raoul Salan, Commander of the French forces in Algeria, went to the microphone to declare: “I have provisionally taken into my hands the destinies of French Algeria."
