Get tough

Terrorists succeed time and again because they choose the place, time and the means to attack. A defender can never be victorious. Victory demands a well-planned and determined attack on the enemy and a fight to the finish. Terrorists will continue to bleed innocent people till their camps and cells continue to function. Knee-jerk reactions after the damage is done will not help.

Lt. Col. H.S. Gur (retd.),

Hisar

The police and other security agencies must concentrate on the prophylaxis of acts of terror. They should be given powers of preventive detention. Acts of terror emanate from an ideology that glorifies killing. Nothing other than a more appealing ideology can counter it. It is here that men of religion can help by bringing about a change in the thinking of their followers.

Lt Col S.M. Sharma (retd.),

Noida

The nation should act now and act tough. We need to emulate the U.S. and Israel — destroy the enemies before they can regroup. Dear politicians, how long will you keep on ‘condemning’ these attacks? Act before it is too late.

Vijay Kumar Nair,

Kochi

The issue of terrorism should not be politicised. All parties should evolve a consensus to eliminate terror and, if necessary, enact a strict anti-terrorism law.

R.K. Suman,

Ukku Nagaram

It was painful to see the pink city turn red on Tuesday. We need to revamp our security level. The photographs published in The Hindu brought tears to my eyes. I wonder what the terrorists achieve by killing innocent people.

C.R. Balaji,

Tiruchi

Suitable reaction by the government, including compensation for the bereaved families, may help to some extent. But what is called for is preventive action to avoid such incidents, so that the people can move around without fear.

B. Ramesh Babu,

Secunderabad

Intelligence should be revamped. POTA should not have been withdrawn without a substitute. Above all, there is lack of political will to tackle the menace.

Politicians should sink their differences and take steps to curb terrorism.

Sravana Ramachandra,

Coimbatore
