Abhijeet holds Drozdovskij

NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Gupta drew with fellow Grandmaster and sixth seed Yuri Drozdovskij to reach four points from five rounds of the Kaupthing Open chess tournament at Differdange, Luxembourg on Tuesday.

Abhijeet and his Ukrainian rival battled for 65 moves before agreeing to sign peace.

Parimarjan Negi matched Abhijeet’s tally by beating Ingvar Johannesson in 52 moves.

Though Tania Sachdev went down to ninth seeded GM Dmitry Frolyanov, young Sahaj Grover overpowered German International Master Thorsten Michael Haub.

The results (involving Indians):

Fifth round: Abhijeet Gupta (4) drew with Yuri Drozdovskij (Ukr, 4); Ingvar Johannesson (Isl, 3) lost to Parimarjan Negi (4); Dmitry Frolyanov (Rus, 3.5) bt Tania Sachdev (2.5); Thorsten Michael Haub (Ger, 2) lost to Sahaj Grover (3).
