Man behind five murders surrenders

KANCHEEPURAM: A man who surrendered before the Deputy Tahsildar here on Tuesday has confessed to have committed five murders between August 2006 and October 2007.
Three of the bodies were exhumed by the police from a grove on the outskirts of the town and from a public library premises in the town on Wednesday.
A search is on for another body in a pond at Putheri. The accused has confessed to having burnt the body of the fifth victim after the murder.
The accused, Devaraj of Pillayarpalayam, came to know that the police suspected his involvement in the theft case reported at Ulagalanthar Koil Sannadhi Street here on April 30. He also came to know that they were on the lookout for his friends Manjunathan, Kumaran and Harikrishnan, whom he had murdered last year due to previous enmity, police told reporters. He also confessed to have killed Dharanikumar in 2007 at Baluchettychatram and Veera in 2006 in Kancheepuram town.
