NEW DELHI: Tuesday’s serial blasts in Jaipur were similar to the ones that rocked Varanasi, Faizabad, Ajmer and Hyderabad in the recent past, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said. Terrorist organisations which had roots and bases in neighbouring countries were carrying out attacks in the country. “They target crowded areas, market places and religious places,”’ he said on his return here from Jaipur.
Replying to persistent queries, Mr. Jaiswal named Pakistan and Bangladesh where terrorists often took shelter after executing attacks in India. “The Centre takes up these issues with the respective governments of neighbouring countries from time to time,” he said.
Sources in the Home Ministry said the needle of suspicion in Jaipur pointed to the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, whose top functionaries were arrested recently from Indore, the Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami and the Lashkar-e-Taiba. These outfits achieved a certain degree of “synergy” in planning and executing the terror strikes in Varanasi, and the Mecca Masjid and an entertainment park in Hyderabad, the sources said.
