Kochi: A total number of 3,488 motor vehicle law violation cases were settled at the two-day Lok Adalat that concluded at the district court complex here on Wednesday. The adalat was organised by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA).The member secretary of KELSA U. Sarathchandran said that a total penalty of Rs. 7.55 lakhs was collected during the settlement. He said that around 7,000 petty cases pending before the magistrate court set up for hearing such cases were taken up for settlement. Those charged with petty offences under the motor vehicle laws were able to settle their cases by paying a nominal amount as penalty. Those who received notice belatedly can pay the penalty mentioned in the notices at the police stations concerned till May 20.
