Ernakulam bags championship

It won 177 points at ITC arts fete; Kottayam came second

KOCHI: Ernakulam district bagged the overall championship at the 8th State ITC Arts Festival that concluded here on Wednesday. The district won 177 points.

Kottayam won the second place, with 59 points followed by Palakkad (54).

Shameer T. S. of Skiltek ITC, Palarivattom, was declared Kalaprathibha while Jinu George of Skiltek, Kaloor, won the Kalathilakom title.

Roliya C. R., and Seby Poulose of Balanagar ITC, Ernakulam, bagged the best actor and actress awards respectively.

Winners of some of the events: quiz - Varghese K. J and Sreejith K. S. of CCM ITC, Arthunkal; skit (Ernakulam district), drama (Ernakulam district); fancy dress - Shameer T. S. (Skiltek ITC, Ernakulam).

Clay modelling – Sahir T. (MDPS ITC, Malappuram); cartooning (Azad Khan R. N., MAS ITC, Thiruvananthapuram); pencil drawing (Jiston Joseph, Balanagar ITC, Ernakulam).

Folk dance (group – male) – Ernakulam; folk dance (group – female) – Ernakulam. Poetry writing - Arun Kumar V., CCM ITC, Arthunkal; short story writing - Ramesh R., Mar Philoxinos ITC, Pathanamthitta.

Minister for Labour P. K. Gurudasan presented the awards to the winners at a function held at Renewal Centre near Kaloor in the evening. In his inaugural address, the Minister said that the government will start 21 new ITIs in the State. He said that the new institutions could be launched this year, if the Finance Department provides necessary support.

District Collector M. Beena presided over the meeting. Sumana N. Menon, Director of Employment and Training, Soman S. P., general convener of State ITC Arts Festival, and G. Madhu, State treasurer of the meet, spoke.
