Celebrating India’s freedom

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A unique exhibition on a train titled “Azadi Express” has been organised in the Capital to mark 150 years of the First War of Independence and 60 years of India’s freedom. Organised by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the exhibition that ends this Thursday chronicles the saga of India’s freedom struggle and its transformation from the First War of Independence to the vibrant democracy of today. This story has been brought alive using a combination of graphics, information panels, models, photographs and audio-visuals that have been displayed in 11 coaches of the train.

Some of the themes featured in the exhibition include “Company Raj”, “National Awakening”, “Quit India Movement”, “Gandhiji Leads”, “Azadi”, “India on the Move” and “Vibrant Democracy” . The exhibition train was flagged off from Safdarjung railway station here last September. After travelling all over the country, the journey ended with the last leg from Meerut to Delhi on May 11.

Subhash Verma, who came to visit the exhibition with his young son, said: “I liked the exhibition as it was a great chance for my son to grasp our rich history. It helped in providing a perception of time as it traced the freedom movement.”
