KOTTAYAM: Kiran Maheswari, national president, Bhartiya Janta Mahila Morcha, has accused the UPA government of being anti-women and anti poor. She said her organisation will launch a nationwide campaign to fight against the “anti women policies” of the government. “The issue of women reservation in the legislative bodies was not getting settled due to the double standards of the Congress party, as the Bill was presented at the fag end of the last session of the Parliament,” said Mrs. Maheswari. She accused the government of running away from their commitment on women’s reservation She recalled that the BJP had extended unconditional support to the Bill. The BJP had increased its women’s reservation quota from 33 per cent to 50 per cent in the local bodies through an amendment in its constitution. Mrs. Maheswari said the worst affected in the spiralling price rise were women.
