THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Armed with a Rs.750-crore loan from NABARD, the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) is poised to revive drinking water projects that will ultimately benefit 25 lakh people in the State. These projects got stalled when the Life Insurance Corporation of India ceased funding them since 2003. The Kalippara scheme that would eventually supply treated drinking water to 11 villages in the Neyyattinkara taluk is one major project that would be revived thanks to the Special Package Assisted by NABARD (SPAN) scheme that was launched here on Wednesday. The scheme that got off the drawing boards in April 1994 has the Neyyar dam as its source. The KWA has already put in place a 36 mld treatment plant and a raw water gravity main from the dam. All the 11 villages are now being serviced by rural water supply schemes installed more than 20 years ago. A conveyance main pipeline would be laid from Kalippara to Parassala.
