KOCHI: The All-India Ration Dealers Association has urged the government to withdraw the stipulation that the ration requirements should be endorsed by panchayat authorities. Association general secretary Babychen Mukkadan told The Hindu that the new stipulation, which would come into force next month, was impracticable in Kerala’s context and that it would also lead to settling of scores between political parties. The Central government had made it mandatory that the panchayat president, the secretary and the respective ward member (or their municipal counterparts) should endorse each month’s ration supplies in advance. On July 20, a national convention would be held at Kottayam.
