Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation has imposed restrictions to prevent the misuse of drinking water supplied in tanker lorries. A resolution adopted by the Corporation Council on Wednesday proposes fixed rate for water supply and stern action to prevent wastage of water. The Corporation will not supply water for construction activities or irrigation. Government and private institutions, trade fairs, arts and sports meets and individuals will have to cough up a fee of Rs.300 as transportation charge for 5,000 litres of water. Tanker lorries will distribute water to parched areas identified on the basis of a recommendation of the ward councillor and subsequent verification by officials. The lorries will park by the roadsides and distribute water in vessels. Drinking water will be supplied to relief camps and cultural programmes with free entry for the public. Free water supply will be ensured for festivals, meetings organised by political and service organisations, rallies and government sponsored programmes.
