Precious stones seized

BANGALORE: The Air Intelligence Unit and Headquarters Preventive of Bangalore Customs have seized 1.5 kg precious stones estimated at Rs. 6 lakh on Tuesday at the HAL Airport.
Customs Commissioner A.K. Kaushal in a release said the stones – rubies and sapphire — were being carried by two passengers who arrived at the airport by Thai Airways from Bangkok. Syed Mohammed Irfan had concealed 1.3 kg stones in his undergarment in a specially made pouch while Syed Nasheer Raza had concealed 200 gm of stones in his trouser pocket. Both of them were residents of Alipore in Gauribidanur taluk.
The stones do not qualify for exemption from Customs Duty.
