Sharp showers in southern suburbs

TAMBARAM: Strong winds that kicked up a dust storm were followed by brief, yet sharp showers on Wednesday in the southern suburbs of Chennai.
There were also reports of hailstorms from some places. The showers brought much needed relief to residents who had been suffering in the scorching summer heat.
Dust storm
Around 4.30 p.m., strong winds caused a dust storm, taking motorists unawares. And a little later, sharp showers lashed for about 20 minutes .
Though brief, the showers were enough to send two-wheeler riders and pedestrians scampering for cover.
Hailstorms too
Residents of Urapakkam and Adhanur reported hailstorms.
The residents said chunks of ice fell on the rooftops of their houses, much to the delight of their children.
