Notices to poll panel in nomination rejection case

Legal Correspondent

Hyderabad: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice G.Chandriah and Justice C.V.Nagarjuna Reddy on Wednesday ordered notices in a writ petition filed regarding the rejection of nomination papers of TDP candidate Ramesh Rathod from Khanapur Assembly constituency in Adilabad district.

The writ petition was filed in the summer vacation court challenging the action of the returning officer in rejecting the nomination of Ramesh Rathod. The election officials took this decision on the ground that he was convicted in a criminal case. The writ petitioner contended that as the appeal was pending and sentence suspended his nomination cannot be rejected.

The Bench was not inclined to pass interim orders, but ordered notices to the Election Commission and other election officers. The case is likely to be listed next week.
