HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has asked all the colleges to provide sports facility and gymnasium to its students on its premises or tie-up with institutions that have these facilities or else they will face disaffiliation. In a statement here, BIE Secretary M. Veerabhadraiah said that as per the High Court order, sports facilities should be provided by the colleges to the students in a separate built-up space in the college. Alternatively, they could tie up with other institutions or municipal play grounds. The alternative facility should be provided within a distance of 5 km from the college premises along with bus facility. He said all the colleges should also obtain fire safety certificate.Colleges located on the main road in urban areas should provide parking area to an extent of 20 per cent of the total built up area or provide the facility within a distance of 100 metres. He said all the existing colleges should get these facilities before June 2, 2008, the re-opening date for the academic year 2008-09.
