NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Union Government, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the ad hoc committee appointed by the IOA to run hockey in the country on a petition challenging the suspension of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) in April this year. Justice Rekha Sharma of the Court issued the notices on the petition filed by IHF which argued that the suspension of the body was in violation of the constitution of the IOA. Against the provisionsArguing for the petitioner, Senior Advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul submitted that the suspension order issued by the Association on April 28 was against the provisions for suspension or dissolution of a federation. He submitted that under the constitution only the general body of the IOA was empowered to suspend or dissolve a federation but in the case of the IHF the Executive Council had taken the decision. The petitioner sought setting aside of the April 28 order of the IOA. The IHF made a plea for an interim injunction on the operational part of the IOA Executive’s decision and also sought permission to hold its Executive meeting on Friday, but no interim orders were issued. The matter will now come up for hearing on July 9.
