THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA) has, in a press note issued here, asked those alleging that the pass percentage in this year’s SSLC examinations have been inflated through liberal granting of marks to stop humiliating the student community and the teachers who worked hard to raise the standards of the teaching-learning experience in the State’s schools. Such criticisms come at a time when large sections of teachers, parents and students are celebrating successes in the SSLC examinations. In 2005 when grading was introduced and when moderation was done away with, the pass percentage actually went down to 58.49. This figure went up in the following years. Those who deride this increase are wilfully ignoring the changes that are taking place in the learning process, the way schools are being run and the levels of awareness of parents and guardians. Once the learning-evaluation process shifted from a memory-based system to a student-centric, activity-based process, students who were previously marginalised started taking active part in the learning process.
