SSLC: Mani seeks judicial inquiry

Kochi: Kerala Congress(M) leader K.M. Mani on Thursday demanded a judicial inquiry into the allegations of irregularities in the valuation of the SSLC examination.

At a press conference, he also urged Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to keep M.A. Baby away from the education portfolio while ordering a judicial inquiry. He alleged that the record pass percentage in the examination was due to irregularities in the valuation process.

He said the statement of Mr. Baby that no additional marks had been awarded during the centralised valuation of the SSLC answer papers was a “lie.”

The LDF government had adopted “crooked methods” to jack up pass percentage in the SSLC examination, allowing ineligible students to scrape through. He alleged that some wrong questions were deliberately set in the English and Mathematics papers and the government instructed the valuators to award full marks to those who attempted to answer these questions. He said that the action of the government would affect the students’ future and bring down the standard of education in the State.
