dated May 16, 1958: Neyveli Lignite project

Mr. Howard Houston, Head of the U.S. Technical Co-operation Mission in India, inaugurated on May 14 the experiment in the pilot briqueting and carbonising plant erected at Neyveli. Mr. Thomas W. Simon, American Consul-General in Madras, was also present. Mr. T.M.S. Mani, Managing Director of the Corporation, said that the tests of Neyveli lignites in well-known laboratories abroad had shown that the lignite was of very good quality capable of being briqueted and carbonised to yield smokeless domestic fuel of excellent quality.
