MUMBAI: Heavy buying in capital goods stocks led the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex with a gain of 375 points to end at 17,353.54 on Thursday. The Sensex opened higher at 17084.89 and remained in positive terrain throughout the day before concluding at 17353.54 against Wednesday’s close of 16978.35. The 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also spurted by another 103.50 points to settle at 5115.25. A fall in the global crude oil prices to near $124 a barrel from record high of $126.98 partly supported the market sentiment. Asian markets displayed a mixed trend with positive bias. The major support to the market came from heavy machinery companies as capital goods sector gained the most by 454.74 points at 13600.80, followed by metal sector by 305.19 points . — PTI
